This toolkit for Arab city leaders communicates the principles and steps required to create an inclusive city. The project was undertaken by UN Habitat in Cairo, as part of the promotion of the new UN Global Compact on Migration (GCM). The toolkit uses regional case studies and guidelines to ensure local leaders are able to clearly understand and implement the GCM.
The toolkit was printed lithographically at A5 size. Separate English and Arabic versions were produced using the same content. Unlike most cases where separate versions are produced for Arabic and English, the flow of content is not directly mirrored between versions. This is due mainly to the pagination of the folding pages, but also because of the self-contained nature of each segment. To give a consistent view of the layouts, most images on this page show the English version.
As requested by the client, the content was split into two separately bound sections, opening from the spine. The left hand side (Pillars of Local Action and Key Components) features foldout spreads, allowing space for illustrated examples of inclusive city building.
The right hand side of the booklet contains a selection of case studies, intermingled with principles from the GCM. Full-bleed imagery was displayed alongside relevant case studies, allowing a visual narrative to develop.
